VFS Global has announced its intention to adopt the newly announced new work system for employees working in the federal government departments of the United Arab Emirates on a permanent basis. Thus, the weekend at the company’s head office in Dubai will move to Saturday and Sunday, starting from next January.
The United Arab Emirates is the first country in the world to amend the globally adopted weekly work system to become shorter than five days a week. The new decision comes as part of efforts to enhance work-life balance and improve social welfare. Headquartered in Dubai, VFS Global, the Swedish-Swiss company, provides its visa services in 143 countries across 5 continents. The new workweek system at the headquarters will therefore be compatible with the company’s operations in global markets that provide services to 63 governments around the world, including the UAE.
Zubin Karkaria, Group CEO of VFS Global, said: “VFS Global welcomes the UAE government’s decision regarding the new national weekly work system. We are proud to be the first institution to adopt the new system at the level of the private sector, and we look forward to our employees benefiting from the benefits offered by the new course of action on both the personal and professional levels.”
