Thousands of people again demonstrated this Saturday (15) in France against the vaccination passport to combat covid, however, the mobilization was less significant than the previous week.
The protests drew 54,000 people across the country, according to the Interior Ministry. A number far from the more than 105,000 on the previous Saturday, which was characterized by a very clear recovery in the demonstrations.
In Paris, the greatest concentration began near the Eiffel Tower, convened by far-right presidential candidate Florian Philippot.
During the act, a team of AFP video journalists was threatened with death and beaten, and one of the security guards protecting them was wounded in the head.
Other marches took place in cities such as Bordeaux, Toulouse or Lille. In several incidents, four people were arrested in the capital and six in the province.
“No to the vaccine” and “freedom for Djokovic”, shouted some protesters, referring to the number one tennis player in the world who wants to participate in the Australian Open without being vaccinated and whose entry visa has been annulled by the authorities.
On the posters, there were messages against the health passport, but also against vaccines: “It’s not a virus they want to control, it’s you”, read a banner in Paris. Another, in Rennes, denounced a “toxic vaccine”.
“It’s Nazism, it’s apartheid, I haven’t been vaccinated and I’m against vaccines in general,” declared Claire, a 60-year-old protester in Paris.
This Saturday, a measure comes into force that will disable the health passport of thousands of people who did not receive the booster dose in the seven months following the first dose.
The document, which allows access to public spaces such as bars and restaurants, will be transformed into a “vaccination passport” under a law being debated in Parliament.
The current pass included the possibility of testing negative for covid-19 or having recently overcome the disease. The new passport will only work with a full immunization schedule.
