“Western partners are expanding protectionist measures, illegal unilateral sanctions,” he said. Mishustin also added that the coronavirus pandemic has led to a recession in key sectors of the global economy and an increase in unemployment. International value chains have been disrupted, trade and investment have fallen, he added.
The Prime Minister also stressed that some states are trying to misuse green economic trends as a way of pressure to gain a competitive advantage in emerging markets. He explained that we are talking about additional taxes and administrative barriers in international trade.
Earlier, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), Gazprom Neft, NLMK and UC Rusal sent comments to the European Commission on the carbon tax on goods imported into the EU. Russian business pointed out a number of problems of the proposed regulation: potential incompatibility with the norms of the World Trade Organization (WTO), reluctance to recognize climate projects of foreign manufacturers, and others.
