Toprak unstoppable
Pole position and hat-trick with victory in Race-1, Superpole Race and Race-2: a magical and perfect weekend ends for Toprak Razgatlioglu in Misano Adriatico, with the Turkish BMW driver adding the icing on the cake by also jumping to the top of the world rankings. The #54 was also uncatchable during the last test of the weekend in Race-2, to the point of performing his famous stoppie on the finish line for the gap he could count on Bulega, once again on the second step of the podium in front of his home crowd. A Ducati that can also console itself with the 3rd place for Alvaro Bautistaauthor of a great comeback from eleventh position on the starting grid.
Yet, analyzing the start itself, Razgatlioglu had been anything but convincing at the start, to the point of actually falling back to fifth position from pole position. A flaw that allowed Bulega to take the lead of the standings, but immediately found the Turkish driver behind him before the end of the first lap, with the #54 jumping into second position after overtaking Locatelli and Alex Lowes. A comeback completely completed during the seventh lap, with the attack on Bulega and the following gap on the Emilian rider, who also reached six seconds. Good race but nothing the #11 can do to aim for victory, with the Aruba.it team still able to celebrate both its drivers on the podium. In fact, Bautista’s great performance should be underlined, with the world champion climbing back up to the podium, thus redeeming himself for the mistake made in the Superpole Race, which ended in 17th place after a crash. Finally, the top-5 is completed by Alex Lowes and Andrea Locatelli, who had also risked a fall, but above all the performance of Danilo Petrucci is to be applauded, who despite the strong pain in his arm due to the injury suffered before the Assen weekend (when fractured his jaw and collarbone following a fall in motocross) and finished in sixth position. 10th, confirming the difficulties he is experiencing in his new experience in Yamaha, the six-time world champion Jonathan Rea. Superbike now takes a month-long break before returning to the track from 12 to 14 July on the Donington trackin England.
