The Ministry of Transport of Russia turned to the Ministry of Defense with a request to include leading civil aviation specialists – pilots and engineers – in the reservation against partial mobilization. Several sources close to the Ministry of Transport told Izvestia about this.
“Appeal of the Minister of Transport to [главе Минобороны Сергею] Shoigu about armor for key civil aviation specialists was indeed sent, ”said one of the interlocutors.
According to another source familiar with the situation, the Ministry of Defense has already agreed in principle to this postponement. Civil aviation organizations (GA) were instructed to prepare lists of professions and lists of employees who are not subject to conscription for partial mobilization, a third source specified. According to him, pilots and technicians will be able to get a delay, but not, for example, flight attendants.
The profile aviation Association of Air Transport Operators (AEVT) previously asked the Ministry of Transport to extend the deferment from conscription to all employees of the backbone organizations of aviation, aircraft repair and the aviation industry. A letter with such a request was sent to the ministry on September 23 (Izvestia has a copy).
The AEVT indicated that the law “On military duty …” already establishes the categories of citizens who are not subject to conscription for military training – they include the flight and technical staff, as well as workers and employees of aviation and railway transport, directly carrying out and providing transportation or engaged in the maintenance and repair of aircraft (helicopters), airfield equipment, rolling stock and railway transport devices. However, airline employees are receiving summonses, the letter says.
