The coordinator of the Special Indigenous Health District (DSEI) Médio Rio Purus, in Lábrea (AM), Antônio Cícero Santana da Silva Apurinã, was dismissed from his position by the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, in response to accusations of moral and sexual harassment made against him. past his subordinates.
There are at least four cases involving his name reported to the authorities. The dismissal was published in the Official Gazette on September 11. Wanted by EstadãoApurinã was not found until the publication of this text; the space remains open.
It is yet another case of accusations of sexual harassment involving employees of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Last month, the then Minister of Human Rights, Silvio Almeida, lost his position after allegations of sexual harassment made against him by the NGO Me Too Brasil came to light. Among the victims would be the Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco. Almeida has denied the accusations since then.
Apurinã had been the target of complaints since 2023, when he took office. Last year, women approached a councilor in the Amazonian city of Lábrea, where the health district is located, to report the episodes. The accusations were brought to the plenary session of the city council in October.
The complaints were forwarded to the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) of Rondônia and Amazonas and to the Federal Police (PF) in both States, in addition to the Civil Police of Amazonas. They were made in both states because, although the city is in Amazonas, it is closer to the capital of Rondônia, Porto Velho, than to Manaus. The district serves a population of 12,357 indigenous people, including villagers and urbanites, in 128 villages.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health said that “it will collaborate with the authorities in investigating the allegations, so that they can be investigated as required by law”.
