The information leak concerns police documents about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ plan to repatriate all willing Finns from the al-Holi camp in Syria.
Police has suspended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ investigation into the data leak, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday.
In December 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made an investigation request to the police regarding the release of internal documents. The ministry asked the police to find out if a crime had occurred when information kept secret by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been released to the media.
The information leak concerned police documents about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ plan to repatriate all willing Finns from the al-Holi camp in Syria. Reported about it Helsingin Sanomat in addition, at least Yle.
The police justified the suspension of the preliminary investigation by the fact that sufficient information about the identity of the suspect in the crime has not been obtained in the case, and it cannot be obtained by appropriate methods. In addition, no explanation has been received as to what has been secret and on what basis.
