A police coordination center will give instructions to suppress the riots
The Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, announced yesterday afternoon the creation of a police coordination center to guarantee that the logistics companies that do not support the strike can continue with their work and supply industries, supermarkets and other productive activities. She did so after meeting with representatives of the employers’ associations that make up the National Committee for Road Transport (CNTC). Said body informed the minister that various strategic points in the country are subjected “to the violent action of pickets, which are causing serious disturbances, cutting off roads and access to loading and unloading areas, puncturing truck tires and breaking windows,” highlighted the President of the International Road Transport Association (Astic), Marcos Bastante.
Before the press, the minister assured that the central government will act “with forcefulness in the face of violence.” “They have the right to vindicate themselves – she asserted -, but not to prevent the free exercise of the profession to the majority of carriers, because most of them want to continue doing their work.”
To influence this commitment to security, Sánchez was accompanied at the meeting by the Secretary of State for Security, Rafael Pérez; the Chief of Staff of the Civil Guard, Brigadier General Fernando Mora, and the General Commissioner of the National Police, Juan Carlos Castro. After Raquel Sánchez’s announcement, the Ministry of the Interior established the aforementioned coordination center, which will give instructions to all the Government delegations.
Dairy industry
For its part, the dairy industry announced yesterday that it is forced to suspend its activity as a result of the strike, according to the Fenil employers’ association, which will block the activities of cattle farms.
At the same time, the commercial employers (ACES, Aecoc, Anged, Asedas and FIAB) asked the Government for its “urgent collaboration” to guarantee the proper functioning of the supply chain in the face of what they consider to be an upsurge in picketing.
