The third generation of the SUV Countryman will give to Mini the chance, starting from 2023, to enter into direct competition with premium brands such as Audi and Volvo. The new car of the British brand, controlled by BMW, will have electrified versions and above all it will be bigger. Basically the largest Mini in the history of the brand. The rumors were confirmed by the presence of some prototype cars, with heavy camouflage, circular views with German license plates.
According to the British magazine Auto Express, the future Mini Countryman will be 4.5 meters long. The current version comes in at 4.3. With more room in the cabin and a more powerful look, it will also rise in terms of the reference segment. The car will feature an evolution of the front grille and a new setting at the rear with trapezoidal lights. The shapes of the headlights will be maintained, which remain distinctive throughout the brand. In general, however, the car shouldn’t break away from tradition in a disruptive way, opting for a look that is renewed in detail. In short, those who want to remain within the Countryman family will not have to get used to a completely different model from the previous ones.
The Countryman production will also move from its current base in the Netherlands to a BMW line in Leipzig, Germany. These are the same lines that will assemble the new BMW X1. With the crossover of the German brand it will also share the platform, the FAAR architecture that will replace the front-wheel drive UKL offering multiple possibilities from the point of view of usable engines. There will be a 48-volt hybrid engine and an all-electric version, without the support of plug-in hybrid units. A Cooper S version will also return, with a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder power unit. There will be technical changes, indeed, also for the passenger compartment and assistance systems and driving aids, given that the passage of the segment must necessarily be accompanied by an increase in overall quality.
