Mojang has announced that it will soon will discontinue PlayStation VR support of PS4 for Minecraft. Starting with the upcoming updates after March 2025it will no longer be possible to use Sony’s headset for gaming.
Minecraft’s PlayStation VR support was introduced in September 2020 with a free update. The studio has now spoken of a possible future compatibility with PlayStation VR2, although unlikely at this point also considering the poor sales of the peripheral.
On the other hand, the native version for PS5 is coming soon
The announcement came alongside the 1.21.30 patch notes, which read: “Our ability to support PlayStation VR has ended and it will no longer be supported in updates after March 2025.”
“After receiving the final update, you will continue to receive updates on your PlayStation and will be able to play without PlayStation VR. You will be able to continue building in your worlds from this point on, and your Marketplace purchases (including tokens) will continue to be available. You will no longer be able to use PlayStation VR with Minecraft as it will no longer be supported by the latest updates.”
Last week, Mojang confirmed that a native PS5 version of Minecraft is coming, after initial testing began last June with a preview release for PS4 owners. It will be available via a free update in upcoming updates, though there’s no specific date set in stone at this time.
