Milton Teodoro Guirado da Silva, father of the three-time F1 world champion Ayrton Senna, died on Wednesday 27 October at the age of 94 of natural causes. This was communicated by the press office of the Ayrton Senna Institute through an official note and profile Facebook dedicated to Ayrton Senna. Milton Da Silva, married to Neyde Joanna Senna, in addition to Ayrton had two other children, Viviane and Leonardo, and was the grandfather of Bruno and Bianca, Viviane’s children (in Portugal and Brazil the children assume, in order, the last surname of the mother and last surname of the father, so that the paternal surname does not disappear).
Born in the north of Sao Paulo, Milton da Silva – known as ‘Miltao’ – started working in car trading. After having accumulated a capital, he expanded his business by opening a company in the field of metallurgy and also investing in other branches such as construction and livestock, buying farms and livestock. Although he wanted his son to help him with family affairs, the crystal clear talent behind the wheel shown by Ayrton convinced Milton Da Silva to fully support his son in the career in the world of karting which then led the driver born in 1960 to make his debut in F1 in 1984. Ayrton decided to race with his mother’s surname and became world champion of F1 in three seasons: 1988, 1990 and 1991, all triumphs at the wheel of McLaren. In Imola, in 1994, the tragic death at the San Marino Grand Prix at the age of 27. The editorial staff of FormulaPassion.it joins the condolences of the Senna family.
