Parties. The convoy of 442 vintage cars strictly build between 1927 and 1957 left the starting grid this morning in Brescia to tackle the first stage of the 2200 km that lie ahead finish line scheduled for Saturday 15 June. Among these wonders on wheels there are also three jewels belonging to the historical collection owned by Stellantis: Lancia Aurelia B20GT (1951), Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider (1954) and 1900C Super Sprint (1956). The Stellantis Heritage body, which has the task of protecting and disseminating the timeless values of Italian automotive brands, of which it preserves a collection of over 300 vintage cars within the Heritage Hub in Turin, has made these available three examples that well represent the sporting tradition of the Alfa Romeo and Lancia brands, which have made the history of Italian sports motoring. Let’s look at the features together:
Mille Miglia 2024: the Lancia Aurelia B20GT
The Granturismo par excellence, with a classic and timeless charm, the Lancia Aurelia B20GT is one of 500 examples of the first series produced in 1951. This specific car, usually exhibited in the Heritage HUB in Turin, took part in the 1000 Miglia speed race in 1954, finishing the race in twelfth place overall and third in class. The Aurelia was also ithe first Lancia model to have achieved notable sporting successes also at an international level, establishing itself in both road and track racing. A car like this could only be driven by an excellent crew. With a list of 17 rallies won and 40 podiums obtained out of 79 rallies contested, and two World Rally Championships won with Lancia, Massimo (aka Miki) Biasion will sit to the right of Savina Confaloni, famous and authoritative automotive & lifestyle journalist, as well as TV presenter and author.
Mille Miglia 2024: the Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider
Prestigious prototype of barchetta signed by Franco Scaglione for the Bertone body shop and developed starting from the “1900”, the Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider it is the car that marks the restart of Alfa Romeo in the post-war period. The already sophisticated four-cylinder of the “1900” was developed and brought to deliver a power of 138 horsepower which, with just 880 kg of weight, allowed the 1900 Sport Spider prototype to reach 220 km/h. This very rare Alfa Romeo from the Stellantis Heritage collection, coming from the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, has already participated numerous times in the re-enactment of the historic 1000 Miglia. At the wheel in this year’s edition is former driver Nicola Larini, who also competed in Formula 1, but who all Alfisti remember for his unforgettable victory in the DTM, the German Touring Car Championship, at the wheel of the legendary Alfa Romeo 155 2.5 V6 TI, which in 1993 defeated the fiercest German competition. Paired with Larini is his friend Luca Ciucci, a passionate regular driver and member of a public body linked to the automotive world.
Mille Miglia 2024: the Alfa Romeo 1900C Super Sprint
The favorite of the gentleman drivers of the fifties and assembled by the Milanese atelier Touring Superleggera, the Alfa Romeo 1900C Super Sprint it is too derived from the “1900”, but equipped with an upgraded engine, designed to give the right adrenaline rush to those who love performance. The 1900 Super Sprint was considered by the drivers and private teams of the time to be an effective car for obtaining class victories: road holding, speed and reliability were the characteristics that made it successful mainly in the Touring Class, but also among the GTs with Touring coupes. In this edition of the Freccia Rossa, on board this example we find the journalist Andrea Farina and with him Davide Cironi, a well-known face of the small screen and founder of Drive Experience.
