Among the many issues that stand out in relation to the next administrative elections, in October, there is also that of mobility. In Milan, in particular, it is a sensitive topic that substantially affects all citizens. With the arrival of cycle paths and scooters, the landscape of people’s movements has significantly changed; at the same time the space for cars has shrunk and those who have lived in the city for several years are still struggling to get used to a change that the current mayor Beppe Sala considers essential. The opponents of the center-right would follow other, more conservative strategies.
In particular it is Vittorio Feltri, the journalist candidate advisor with the Brothers of Italy in the coalition led by Luca Bernardo, to strongly criticize Sala’s policy on mobility. “The three main problems to be solved in Milan? First: the cycle paths. They need to be better regulated because in this way they paralyze traffic. Second: the mosquitoes on wheels, those things, as they are called: the scooters. Very dangerous. They are to be disciplined. Those who go there must have helmet, insurance, license and so on. Third the homeless. There are many, indeed too many, live on the street and especially in winter it hurts the heart to see them. Let’s put them in disused public housing, give them a roof, in short, let’s do something. […] I don’t even give Beppe Sala a pass. He created the traffic mess. Milan is a city that is always on the move, always active: if you block traffic, you block the economy. Here people come to work, not to admire VesuviusFeltri said in an interview with the newspaper La Stampa.

Between now and October, however, Milan will change again: in fact recently Sala announced the change of the Buenos Aires cycle path, one of the main courses of the city. With the works starting in August, there is time before the elections arrive. “The final dream is that of a straight cycle path when it will be possible not to have parking on the course as in the great European avenues. In August we will do some work to fix some more delicate sections. We also started quickly to manage the issue of the pandemic and we will fix them as much as possible. Milan has dozens of kilometers of cycle paths, the one of Corso Venezia and Buenos Aires is the most visible and the question is unleashed there, if there were to be an election campaign on the Corso Buenos Aires cycle path, poor Milan. Between Buenos Aires – Venice we will arrange some things, we will collect suggestions: I respect the work of the traders but on the other hand I can recall the reaction of the traders in Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Via Dante and so on. The change is experienced badly in the first instance, then you look back and see the advantage“, Explained Sala last June during an event.
