Migration | The bodies of 90 drowned people have already been found in the wake of the Syrian boat accident

Syria 90 bodies have already been found in the wake of the boat that sank off the coast, Syrian state television reported on Saturday. It is one of the most devastating shipwrecks of ships carrying migrants in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The boat carrying the migrants left Lebanon. It sank off the Syrian port city of Tartus on Thursday. The small boat was carrying 150 people, who the UN says were mostly Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian.

Twenty a person has been found alive after the accident. 14 of them are still hospitalized, while six have been released from the hospital.

The Lebanese army said that in custody is a Lebanese citizen who “has admitted to having organized the recent [ihmisten] smuggling operation from Lebanon by sea to Italy”.
