S.You’re trapped in nowhere. Accordingly, the migrants who have set out to get from Belarus to Lithuanian territory in the past few days are acting desperately. On Saturday, however, Lithuania closed the mostly green border with its south-eastern neighbor, after over 4,000 migrants – the majority of whom were Iraqis – entered Belarus from Belarus since the beginning of the year. A video broadcast on the opposition Belarusian channel Nexta shows how migrants burn their clothes on the border strip in order to at least warm up a little by the fire. On another video, a Lithuanian border guard gives an angry man the order “Go back!”, Whereupon he asks: “Where is go back?”
The question is difficult to answer. For example, Lithuanian news portals present a video that shows how a Belarusian border guard rules on migrants, saying they should go “there” – that is, to Lithuania. However, the Minsk ruler Alexandr Lukashenko is not thinking of taking back the people he has sent on the way to the neighboring country and flown into Belarus by air. He had the border with Lithuania closed last Thursday.
