Movies, video games, car racing: there are many reasons why one in the collective imagination Nissan Skyline GT-R, built between the end of the eighties and the second half of the nineties, is something that excites. The unmistakable style of the R32 and R33 versions played a big role in setting the standard for Japanese sports cars of the nineties, and this is also beginning to be seen in the value of used cars. After many years, the prices of the Nineties Skylines increase on average, with inexorable rhythm. Looking at the graphs of Bring A Trailer (American site) you can see the value curve. They will be, in a few years, timeless classics.
We are talking about it today because next August 18-20, 2022, in Monterey, California, RM Sotheby’s will auction a 1995 Nissan Skyline GT-Rwith very low mileage (only 1,590 kilometers) and above all with a true connoisseur color: Midnight Purple. If there is a car to be seen with, this is the candidate par excellence. Also from a technical point of view, the quality is undisputed: it is equipped with a 2.6-liter twin-cam and twin-turbo engine (code name RB26DETT), an in-line six-cylinder, 24 valves, coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox. . The horsepower is around 300 horsepower, although Nissan declared 276 horsepower as an agreement, entered into with Japanese competitors, to advertise ‘less’ the power of the cars.
The problem with the R33, if we want to call it that, is that modesty is not needed: from the aesthetic aspect to the sound of the engine, everything speaks of true grit. In terms of value, there are many Skyline GT-Rs from the nineties that have aged by the kilometers and heavily modified by their owners, precisely because it is a car that lends itself favorably to tuning. So finding one in factory configuration, practically new, and with a special color, is certainly a rarity. An auction price of $ 100,000 could be hazarded, considering certain past sales (V-Spec versions have already surpassed that figure) and usually higher mileage.
