Midnight Mass creators Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy explain the genesis and symbologies behind the miniseries, one of the most viewed of the genre on Netflix.
We are in the most propitious time of year for watching horror: one of the most popular of recent times is Midnight Mass, miniseries conceived and directed by Mike Flanagan, who in this exclusive Netflix video discusses with fellow producer Trevor Macy about how this particularly personal project was born, largely inspired by the Catholic education of his showrunner. In a second video, however, we discover the symbology behind the conception of the context of the events narrated.
It is the story of a small community on a remote island whose differences are amplified by the return of a disgraced young man (Zach Gilford) and the arrival of a charismatic priest (Hamish Linklater). When Father Paul’s appearance on Crockett Island coincides with inexplicable and apparently miraculous events, a renewed religious fervor captures the entire community, but what will be the price to pay?
The cast of the seven-episode miniseries conceived and directed by Flanagan (who, remember, is also the author of the acclaimed The Haunting of Hill House) includes Kate Siegel, Rahul Abburi, Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Alex Essoe, Annarah Cymone , Annabeth Gish, Rahul Kohli, Kristin Lehman, Robert Longstreet, Igby Rigney, Samantha Sloyan, Henry Thomas and Michael Trucco. The series is executive produced by Flanagan and Trevor Macy for Intrepid Pictures.
