Some Dutch parties have put a motion in parliament, in which they have an absolute majority (94 out of 150 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, 44 out of 75 seats in the Senate), to ask for the announcement of the prize fundsconsider gambling, starting with microtransactionswho according to the text manipulate children.
In the motion we can read: “The Chamber, acknowledged that children in video games are manipulated to purchase microtransactions and that the so-called prize funds are a form of gambling;
acknowledging that these transactions are addictive and can impose unexpected costs with destructive effects;
having noted that consumer associations in eighteen European countries have called for the regulation of premium funds;
…
having acknowledged that premium funds are prohibited in Belgium;
asks the cabinet to investigate the possibility of banning premium funds also in the Netherlands and, where necessary, to change the law.“
In short, the problem of premium funds has also become a matter in the Netherlands politics. After all, it is known that it is a controversial form of monetization, conceived precisely starting from the principles that regulate gambling.
Just today Spain also announced measures on premium funds.
