Metacritic revealed what the highest-rated video game publishers in 2021. Microsoft Xbox was able to beat Sony PlayStation. Let’s see the details.
Metacritic explains that, according to the calculations, Microsoft / Xbox Game Studios was able to score 346 points in 2021. Sony / PlayStation Studios, on the other hand, scored 312.9 points during the year. Both companies have improved their position compared to the previous year, as in 2020 they finished sixth and fourth respectively (SEGA was before last year, now it is eighth).
Let’s specify, before you go to do calculations on Metacritic, that these numbers are not simply a sum of the votes of the published games, but also take into account the number of games with positive reviews (green vote), the number of negative reviews (red vote) and the number of games with a higher rating than 90. Sony, during 2021, did not get any media beyond 90 for example, while Microsoft got three (Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2, Microsoft Flight Simulator). Sony got 91% green-rated games, while Microsoft got 100%.
Metacritic also explains that Microsoft was able to get a incredible result. His annual grade point average was 87.4. It is the first time ever that a company has averaged above 85. PlayStation, for example, stops at 81.3.
As for the other companies, we find Humble Bundle in third position with 309.6 points, Activision Blizzard in fourth with 308.2 points and Bethesda Softworks with 306.9 points.
