Yesterday, the Museum of the Future in Dubai hosted Alex Kipman, Technical Fellow and Vice President of Microsoft for Artificial Intelligence and Mixed Reality technologies, in the third session of the “Future Dialogues” series, titled “Mixed Reality and Metaverse”, in which he discussed the modern applications of this technology that It creates a new reality that integrates the real and virtual environments, and allows the user to deal with them at the same time.
Kipman, Technical Fellow for Artificial Intelligence and Mixed Reality at Microsoft Cloud and AI Group, began his session by expressing his admiration for the UAE and its pioneering experience, saying: “This is my first visit to the UAE, and I am really impressed by its vision and level of determination to develop ideas and visions and turn them into reality. This is evident in the progress made in just two generations.
Kipman continued: “Technology is the tool that turns us into super powerful beings and gives us the ability to transcend space and time, and this is the real goal of its existence, which is to transcend the limitations of time and space… Metaverse achieves this for us because it allows humans to convey their challenges, dialogues and current lives through immersive experiences. To a reality and a completely backward time.”
“Mixed reality represents my vision of the future, in which the entire world will be a platform for humanity in which technology as we know it today disappears and becomes an integrated part of the reality around us,” added Kipman, who is the lead inventor of more than 100 patents since joining Microsoft in 2001.
Kipman pointed out that the reality for humans today is composed of three elements: people, places and things, adding: “The existence of people and things without a spatial space is the metaphysics, as it provides a space that collects people and things regardless of where they are.”
The future is a multifaceted mixed reality
Kipman, who was a major contributor to launching four revolutionary products for Microsoft, including Kinect in 2010, talked about his new product, Microsoft HoloLens, through which he mixed virtual reality and hologram technologies in the Windows environment, as part of his efforts to spread mixed reality in contemporary life applications. . Kipman commented, “Metaverse is no longer science fiction, but rather a reality that exists today and can be explored through Microsoft HoloLens, which use highly advanced technologies that monitor the user’s movement, words, and looks and transform them into ways to communicate with any other user of the glasses.”
Kipman showed the audience videos that amazed the audience, showing the nature of the experience experienced by the user of HoloLens glasses, saying: “This is the future, and this is one of the main technological means that will allow us to advance in our journey to transcend the limitations of time and space, through augmented reality technologies and 3D images. And other applications will radically transform the lives of consumers and companies, and the world will become a smart platform powered by cloud computing.”
He continued, “At this point, we will not look at technology as a separate fact from us, but rather it will be an integrated part of our lives that contributes to expanding the circle of our imagination to create a world without borders.” Kipman also touched on Microsoft Mesh, the Microsoft-supported version of the Metaverse applications, and provided a comprehensive view of what the experience offers to the user through mixed reality technologies. Chosen by Time magazine as one of the 100 most important people in the world for 2011, Kipman talked about the current and future applications of mixed reality, saying that this technology opens the door to making qualitative leaps in the field of education, health, medical treatments and entertainment.
