The latest round of layoffs at Microsoftregarding the Xbox division, Call of Duty League hit hardwhere many heads fell, including that of Miles ‘MilesTheRoss’ Rosshistorical presenter of the series’ eSport events. He himself confirmed that he had been fired from Activision, with a message posted on social networks.
The dismissal of Miles Ross is one of the strongest signals of the crisis, or more simply of the downsizing, of the eSports sectorconsidering that he was one of the most recognizable figures of the Call of Duty League, with years of work behind him and many seasons spent in the spotlight.
A low blow
“Last week I was laid off from Activision during Microsoft’s latest wave of layoffs along with some amazing friends on the CDL team,” Ross explained on social media, before continuing: “While I consider this a low blow, I am still extremely excited about the BO6 season and even more excited for what the future holds.
For now, my exclusivity with Call of Duty is over, so call me and let’s go have some fun together. Daddy needs money for diapers.”
It should be noted that this is not the first time that layoffs have occurred in the team that deals with the Call of Duty League, which itself has gone through various crises, so much so that many are questioning its future in the world of eSports, also considering the Activision Blizzard’s growing disinterest in the sector.
For now, teams are continuing to act as if nothing has happened, so the 2025 Call of Duty League season should be held as usual. We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the future, though.
