Microsoft has made the process of changing the browser on Windows more difficult. About it informs How-To Geek edition.
Journalist Chris Hoffman reviewed the beta version of Windows 11 and found out that Microsoft changed the order of changing the default browser. As before, this option is available in the operating system settings. However, if in Windows 10 the change of the standard Edge browser to Chrome, Mozilla, Opera or any other was made at the touch of one button, then in the new OS the process was complicated.
To change the default browser in Windows 11, you need to go to the settings, then go to the “Applications” section and open the list of programs. Further, after choosing the Edge browser, the system will offer to configure the base program to open certain documents – html, htm, http, https, pdf and others. For each format, you need to select a specific program separately.
Hoffman noted that every time you try to change Edge to a different browser, the OS will ask the user not to rush into a decision. The message “Microsoft Edge is fast, secure and built specifically for Windows 11” appears.
According to the specialist, this innovation can be preserved in the public version of the OS. Chris Hoffman noted that Microsoft’s desire to retain its share of Edge users is logical, since the browser market is huge and generates a lot of money for the company.
Earlier it became known that Windows 11 will be the first OS from Microsoft, in which there will be no Internet Explorer browser. The outdated web browser has been removed from the new operating system and cannot be installed from the Microsoft Store.
