After the purchase of Activision Blizzard, it seemed that Microsoft had ended its obsession with buying the largest companies in the industry. However, a new rumor has indicated that the next big goal for Xbox owners would be Valve, company that could acquire the modest amount of $16 billion dollars.
This is not something completely new, since during the trial for the purchase of Activision Blizzard, A document revealed that Microsoft considered acquiring Valve in 2020. A purchase figure was not offered at the time, but it was noted that Steam owners had net income of approximately $6.5 billion four years ago.

Since then, the market has changed quite a bit. The purchase of Activision Blizzard substantially affected Xbox, and although Microsoft still has a lot of money to make these types of offers, Layoffs and studio closures have made it clear that there were negative consequences after acquiring the owners of Call of Duty.
Along with this, it seems strange that Microsoft would consider buying Valve, who has a huge presence on PC, for a fraction of what Activision Blizzard cost. In this case we are not only talking about having properties like Half-Life in your possession, but Steam would also be in the hands of the Redmond companyand considering that they already have a digital store on this platform, it is likely that regulators will take a more aggressive position when validating this possible acquisition.
For its part, Valve and Microsoft have remained silent, so this is just a rumor for the moment. On related topics, the next Valve game is leaked. Likewise, the beta for the family plan is now available on Steam.
Author’s Note:
While it is possible that Microsoft will be able to buy Valve, this is an acquisition that I do not see possible. Steam owners are in a good position, and the amount of money is less than Activision Blizzard.
