That the crisis caused by the shortage of microchips and semiconductors would have had a strong impact on the Italian car market even in October it did not seem to be in question. But the collapse that was recorded in the tenth month of the year is surprising above all for its size: just 101,015 new cars registered in our country in October, 35.7% less compared to the same month last year. An exponent decline, which therefore reduces the growth recorded in the cumulative since the beginning of the year to 12.7%, with 1,266,629 deliveries recorded.
In the general negativity stands out the performance of the group Stellantis, well below expectations: in October the group delivered 35,664 cars, 41.7% less than the same month last year, and with a market share down to 35.3%. The heavy contraction of the Italian car market is mainly due to the crisis in the supply of microchips, a situation that is not destined to resolve itself anytime soon: word of the Promotor Study Center, which, as explained by Il Corriere della Sera on newsstands this morning, does not seem to radiate optimism from all its pores. Unrae also seems worried about the general situation of the market: the association of foreign car manufacturers has requested a long-term incentive policy, underlining that on 27 October the 65 million for electric cars were sold out in one day.
