Morelia, Michoacán.- Organized crime groups operating in the Sierra de Michoacanentity that in the last 48 hours registered at least 28 murders in the style of the narco, they are practically equipped like any other Army.
In the region of hot landfor at least two years there have been attacks with armored vehicles and artilleryknown as “monsters”, but also with explosive drones against authorities and civilians and, now, they use anti-personnel mines similar to those used by the warfare Colombian and terrorists from the Middle East, as well as assault weapons for the exclusive use of the Army, hand grenades, Barrett rifles and even surface-to-air rockets.
The drug war undertaken mainly by CJNG against United Cartelsas well as against the Army, has focused on the limits of Michoacán with Jaliscoin the municipalities of Aguililla, land of the leader of the CJNG, Nemesio Oseguera “Mencho”as well as in Tepalcatepec, Buenavista, La Huacana, Nueva Italia, Parácuaro, Gabriel Zamora, Apatzingán and Nuevo Urecho.
On February 12, two peasants rolled their truck over a mine antipersonnel in the El Callejón gap, a town in The Aguajein Aguililla, which caused the immediate death of the 79-year-old man, while his 45-year-old son was admitted to the Apatzingán Hospital with serious injuries from the blast wave of the craft artifact.
Twelve days earlier, on January 31, soldiers who were patrolling the Taixtán-Colomo road in Tepalcatepec also rolled over another mine, where four were injured and the military vehicle was destroyed.
Likewise, in Tepalcatepec, on January 11, explosives were launched in the form of darts from drones to intimidate military camps in La Romera and Bejuco, in Tepalcatepecand a month before, in Chinicuila, a similar attack with C4 and fragmentation grenades was directed against policemen.
In October 2019, one of the “monsters” served the CJNG to ambush to policemen in Eaglewith a balance of 13 deaths.
In addition to the non-stop drug war, the inhabitants of Michoacán spend their days in the middle of the increase in intentional homicides daily provoked by criminal groups that dispute a strategic territory for planting and transporting poppies.
Only last Monday, in Michoacán there were at least 23 intentional homicides, according to the count of murders carried out daily by the Federation.
Among the municipalities most affected by this thread of violence were Ciudad Hidalgo, Morelia, Tangamandapio, Uruapan and Jacona.
And yesterday, another five people were killed in Los Reyes, Zitácuaro and Morelia, according to local media reports.
Since the Governor Alfredo Ramirez Bedolla (Morena) took protest, on October 1, in Michoacán there is a record of at least 1,114 murders.
The hitmen of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho”, originally from the municipality of Aguililla, have been recorded wearing bulletproof vests, using explosive drones, assault rifles for the exclusive use of the Army, grenades, Barrets and even anti-personnel mines, of which two have exploded in the last two weeks.
Romain Le Cour, violence analyst at the México Evalúa organization, and who lived in that area from March to April 2021, assured that the tactics and weapons of the criminals have been perfected to be more violent.
“It is worrying high caliber weapons, the firepower they have, whether in the ultramajority of military weapons, assault rifles or even more powerful weapons, uniforms, helmets, bulletproof vests. The prototype of the Michoacan group today looks a lot like a member of the Armed Forces. Quite trained people,” he told REFORMA.
Le Cour, coordinator of the Security and Violence Reduction program of the organization, added that it would be necessary to review how much violence can escalate in the area due to the recently found anti-personnel mines.
“This about the mines was not told to me during my visit, but if it is confirmed that a group systematically mined ranches and territory, we are facing an even more worrying scenario than the issue of drones, because we are raising another level in control territorial and social, especially impact on the civilian population”.
“Michoacán is almost a laboratory for violence in Mexicoor, of practices of violence, the groups have a capacity for innovation that they later replicate in other territories. In this region, in which the last governments have invested billions of pesos in supposedly pacifying, in militarizing the Michoacan conflicts, today we can say nothing more than that it is a failure, again.”
