Still in Asia
For the third consecutive weekend, MotoGP will take to the track for the final phase of the world championship: after Misano and Mandalika, the MotoGP will remain in Asia for Japanese Grand Prix on the circuit Motegion a weekend that could present a strong risk of rain and an air temperature varying between 15° and 30°.
The ‘Stop and Go’ route
Characteristics that pushed Michelin, sole supplier of tires in MotoGP, to bring to Japan the most suitable tire package for the Japanese track, as explained by Piero TaramassoMotorsport Manager of the French company: “It is a very varied and challenging track – he declared – demands a lot on the rear tires, because there are many acceleration areas where motorcycles have to transmit power to the ground, and also to the front tires, due to repeated hard braking. It’s a circuit we call “stop and go”, with numerous changes of pace that put our tires to the test. It is also a circuit where the corners follow each other closely and where the constant weight transfer must be managed in a way that gives the drivers maximum confidence. The structure of our tires has obviously been designed to provide all the necessary stability and to ensure that they do their job in terms of traction, grip and consistency. The versatility of our tires, as well as the way they control temperatures – which we have worked on in developing the 2024 compounds – should satisfy all our partners. We have made a selection of tires suited to the expected conditions, even in case of rain, based on the data collected over many years in Motegi, and also based on the increase in performance of the motorbikes.”
As a result, teams and drivers will have available three symmetrical front compounds (Soft, Medium and Hard), as well as two rear compoundsspecifically Soft and Medium. It should be underlined that the latter will be asymmetrical, with the right shoulder reinforced to cope with the configuration of the circuit, which features eight right-hand corners and six left-hand corners over a length of 4.801 km. In case of rain, pilots will be able to count on Power Rain Soft and Medium for both the front and rearalso here with the right side reinforced for both compounds.
