The Mexico confirms itself as a land of great attraction for car manufacturers from all over the world. This is demonstrated by the fact that even MG Motor is preparing to stabilize part of its production in the Latin American country: the Chinese giant has in fact announced that it intends to build a new plant in Mexico, as well as a Research and Development center.
New MG Plant in Mexico
MG Motor thus joins several other electric vehicle manufacturers that plan to build plants in Mexico, including BYD and Teslaalthough the latter has recently suspended its plans. Zhang Wei, the number one of the Chinese company, has specified through an official note that these two new centers will allow it not only to produce vehiclesbut also to create market specifications specifically designed for and from Latin America. Details of the project are limited at this time: MG Motor has not said how much it intends to invest and has not provided a construction timeframe.
Also a research and development center
The Chinese company’s goal is to make Mexico an important growth pole and expansion for the SAIC Group and for MG Motor itself in Latin America and the Caribbean. We will see what MG Motor’s choice will be for the USA: BYD, for example, has said that its Mexican plant will not serve the US market, while Tesla, through its CEO Elon Musk, has said that plans to build a plant in Mexico are on hold pending whether Donald Trump will win the US elections in November, since the latter has said he will impose heavy tariffs on electric vehicles produced in Mexico.
