A journalist was murdered this Monday afternoon in the state of Guerrero, in southern Mexico, where a dozen homicides of communicators have been reported throughout the country so far this year.

Fredid Román, who spread information through his social networks, was shot to death in the city of Chilpancingo, reported the local prosecutor’s office, when he was inside his wine-colored car on Prolongación Valerio Trujano street, in the Progreso neighborhood.
The agency said in a statement that it began the investigation “for the crime of homicide by firearm (…), to the detriment of Fredid ‘N’.”
He added that forensic personnel went to the place where Roman was murdered “to obtain the evidence necessary to clarify the facts.” Román spread journalistic columns on his personal Facebook page.

In the last one, he wrote about the report that the Mexican government released last week on the disappearance of 43 students from the normal school of Ayotzinapa in 2014and about the arrest of former Attorney General Jesús Murillo Karam, responsible for the questionable investigations of the case.
In addition, he had an online newscast on a Facebook page called “Conservando Guerrero”, which also broadcast other people’s content.
A never ending drama
With the murder of Fredid Román, there are 16 journalists murdered in Guerrero, from 2000 to date, and it is the second murdered in the current state government.
Recently, the deputy representative in Mexico of the Office in Mexico of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN-DH) warned that “the number of murders of journalists registered in Mexico is cause for concern.”
According to figures from the organization Article 19, since 2000 at least 154 communicators have been murdered in Mexico in possible relation to their journalistic work.
While in the current administration of President López Obrador, since December 2018, around 2,000 attacks against the press in the countryincluding 40 murders, 15 so far this year.
