Mexico is the most dangerous country for journalists in the entire Western Hemisphere. A total of 47 journalists have been killed in the country in the last three years.

On Sunday, a photojournalist Alfredo Cardoso died of his injuries at the hospital. Armed assailants had abducted him from his home on Friday. Cardoso was found wounded on the streets of the city of Acapulco, from where he was taken to hospital for treatment for his firearms wounds.

Thursday supplier Fredy López Arévalo was shot to death after he arrived at his home in the town of San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Mexico is the most dangerous country in the Western Hemisphere for journalists and media workers, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), among others.

According to the CPJ, 47 journalists and 94 human rights activists have been killed in the country in the last three years. According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), seven journalists have been killed in Mexico this year.

The country ranks 143rd on the RSF’s press freedom list. There are a total of 180 countries on the list. Several violent crimes against journalists have remained unresolved in Mexico.
