The Mexican baseball team was eliminated from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after falling 12 runs to five against Israel.
The national team could do nothing against Israel who had five- and six-run rallies in the third and seventh innings, respectively.
Israel scored in the first with producer hit Nick Rickles who sent Danny Valencia to the plate.
In the third inning, pitcher Manny Barreda received a visit from the pitching coach to reassure the Mexican pitcher, but it did not do much, since with men on base, Valencia homered the left-handed three-run RBI, drove in Scotty Burcham and Ian Kinsler for 4-0 on the board. The third inning was just beginning.
With Blake Gailen’s double to right field, came the change of pitcher and manager Benjamin Gil sent for Sasagi Sánchez. Isael had men in second and third.
Hit Nick Rickles central and Gailen’s race came and then Ryan Lavarnway came home for the sixth entry.
In response, Jonathan Jones hit a double and reached second base and then, with a double by Ryan Goins, Mexico had its first run at the meeting. Goins put it 2-6 on the board with Jake Fishman’s wild pitch. Isaac Rodríguez reached base with that wild pitch, and later stole second and third. Sebastián Elizalde hit a producer double in the third race for the Mexican novena who was still on fire.
Elizalde arrived at the register with the unstoppable of Joey Meneses that the Israeli third baseman could not stop, to get closer on the board, now 4-6.
In the sixth inning, Mexico got dangerously close in the electronic with the career of Meneses produced by Adrián González with an unstoppable right field.
Elevated sacrifice by Efrén Navarro and Daniel Espinosa advanced to second and González took the anteroom. Román Solís missed a great opportunity for the Mexican ninth when striking out without throwing him with a full house.
With Oliver Perez on the mound, Blake Gailen hit right and produced the seventh run, then came Nick Rickles with a fly ball to left that kept them from moving on the bases, second outh for Israel.
Pérez’s bases were filled and he lost the duel against Mith Glasser, who hit a double to center-back, driving in three runs to 9-5. Zack Penprase doubled the ball to center again and Israel fell two more runs, taking off again on the board. And the entry was not over yet, already with Scotty Burcham produced the sixth run of the inning, number 12 of the meeting, for the Israelites, sent Penprase to the register.
Mexico sent for reliever Carlos Bustamante to try to stop the Israeli attack and he succeeded, but the damage was done, 12-5 in the seventh high.
In the next two innings, Mexico could not specify anything.
The winning pitcher of the match was Zack Weiss and the defeated Manuel Barreda.
Mexico was eliminated from the tournament and now Israel will wait for the winner between Korea and Dominican Republic to see how they will advance in the tournament
