Should we expect Metroid Prime Remaster soon?
The series Metroid is experiencing a moment of rebirth, thanks to the release of Metroid Dread on Nintendo Switch.
Following the announcement of the game at E3, many have expressed their interest in revisiting previous Metroid games. Well, it looks like at least one previous Metroid game could be headed for the Nintendo Switch in the near future: Metroid Prime.
The Nintendo insider, Emily Rogers, shared information about a remaster of the game in September and has now stated on Twitter that work on the remaster has been initiated by Retro Studios in 2017-2018 and would be completed during the summer.
Rogers went on to say that Nintendo and Retro had planned to remaster all three Metroid Prime games, with the aim of focusing on the first one, then moving on to the sequels. However, Rogers also says she is unsure whether plans can be changed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Related note: I’m pretty confident Metroid Prime 1 wrapped up development over the summer.
I hope we still see the entire trilogy on Switch. But Prime 1 is clearly finished.

However, the first Metroid Prime would be very welcome on the Nintendo Switch. Originally released on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002, the game marked Samus’ first foray into 3D. When it was first announced, many fans were expecting a third-person game, but Nintendo and Retro Studios revealed a first-person adventure instead. The announcement was met with heavy criticism, but the game received universal acclaim upon its release. Metroid Prime has managed to capture the heart of 2D games while delivering a thrilling new adventure. The game was later ported to the Nintendo Wii as part of the Metroid Prime Trilogy, and rumors have been circulating for years about a Switch port.
