Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis and TotalEnergies / Saft have officially signed an agreement to become an equal partner in the company Automotive Cells Company (ACC)thus completing a transaction announced in September 2021. The partners have pledged to increase ACC’s industrial capacity to at least 120 Gigawatt hour by 2030 and to increase the development and production of next-generation high-performance battery cells and modules.
“As an equal shareholder, Mercedes-Benz will contribute its experience and support the expansion of ACC’s manufacturing network based on the brand’s benchmark quality standards. Stellantis instead, it will bring industrialization expertise to the joint venture through brand diversity, size and global footprint. Together they will benefit from the unique combination of technological know-how, manufacturing experience and scalability of the joint venture“, Reads a note published by Mercedes.
The main focus of ACC is to develop and produce battery cells and modules for electric vehicles. The increase in ACC’s planned capacity is expected to lead to an investment of at least seven billion euros, which will be supported by grants and funded by equity and debt. All this, in the long term, will lead to savings for all entities involved in terms of research and development, possibly proposing a standard that is sustainable from an economic point of view.
“Together with ACC we will develop and manufacture battery cells and modules in Europe in an efficient and specific way to meet the requirements of Mercedes-Benz. This new partnership allows us to secure supply, take advantage of economies of scale and provide our customers with superior technology batteries. Furthermore, we can help ensure that Europe remains at the heart of the automotive industry, even in the age of electrification“, He declared Ola KälleniusMercedes CEO, last September.
“We welcome Mercedes-Benz as a strategic partner who shares our ambition to accelerate ACC leadership. Stellantis’ electrification strategy is proceeding swiftly, with a commitment to offer the best solutions that are fully electrified and able to meet customer needs. This partnership is based on the sharing of technical skills and manufacturing synergies and ensures that Stellantis continues to show the world how to move in the most efficient, convenient and sustainable way.“, Said the CEO of Stellantis instead Carlos Tavares.
