Brabus has completed a very important work, relating to one of the most iconic cars when viewed from the point of view of modern art. For the famous artist Andy Warhol it was something more, it was an object to be transformed into something special.
The history of this car is very interesting. In 1986, Daimler-Benz commissioned legendary pop art icon Andy Warhol to produce of a series of original works of art to tell the story of the automobile. Infused with Warhol’s unmistakable style, thanks to striking color combinations, the “Cars” series was born. Warhol also used a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL with the chassis number 198.040-5500629 and the plate “EI – DR 1“. Brabus, which has a classics division as important as the one specializing in tuning, worked on this same car, chosen by Warhol, to merge the worlds of revolutionary pop art and automotive history.
After 4,500 hours of work and careful attention to detail, including a piece-by-piece disassembly, the car is shining again. With the utmost precision, the iconic lightweight tubular frame and every inch of the bodywork have been brought back to life, accentuated by extravagant chrome elements. “No other car in the world is so elegant and timeless, so surprising and unmistakable. Under the hood of the car stands a three-liter in-line six-cylinder that delivers 215 hp. Every single bolt and every component of the 300 SL’s engine and powertrain configuration has been restored according to all original specifications.
