Mercadona This Monday he explained all the actions he is carrying out to help those affected by the DANA that devastated the province of Valencia at the beginning of the month, among which is the delivery of more than 300 tons of food, equipment or materialsin collaboration with its different suppliers.
Regarding donations, Mercadona indicated that it is providing food to all the soup kitchens with which it collaborates and that are located in the affected areas and surrounding areas, and whose needs are being studied beyond the food they may need. . Furthermore, the company maintains constant contact with the Valencia Food Bank, to which more than 10 trailers of food have been donated.
Likewise, it supplies food to the Cocina Solidaria program, led by chef Ricard Camarena, which provides 10,000 hot meals daily at the Frescos Delisano supplier facilities and 4,500 meals a day from its restaurant.
All of these actions are in addition to those carried out at the beginning of this catastrophe, such as the provision of two company stores from which donations were channeled, the purchase and delivery of 1,200 pallets of water, and the delivery of basic necessities to serve people in need at different points in the province of Valencia (L’Alquería del Basket, Estación del Norte, the La Petxina sports complex and the Cheste City Council).
In the case of its workers, the company, to which all those directly affected were told at the time to prioritize what was really important without this altering their remuneration and without recovering the time allocated for it, has facilitated mobility for that they can travel to their workplace and has activated 1,000 volunteer workerscoming from other departments of the company, to help with the adaptation and cleaning tasks of the stores, with the aim of being able to open as soon as possible and provide service to the neighbors.
Regarding collaboration with authorities, among the latest measures carried out, it is worth highlighting that the company has made advice and logistical support available to the Department of Social Services, in addition to a 7,000 square meter warehouse in Picassent (Valencia) to channel donations, to give the space of L’Alquería del Basket to the army units deployed to the area as a base of operations, and to provide transport vehicles for the distribution of aid.
Finally, as the director of Social Action at Mercadona, Laura Cruz, in charge of coordinating all the aid, recalled, the company works under the premise of “do whatever is necessary and even when necessary, because now is the time for closeness.”
