The São Paulo Municipal Market, popularly known as Mercadão, has a special schedule on weekends until the end of this month. Every Saturday and Sunday in February, from 12pm to 2:30pm, a musical attraction will take place in the streets surrounding the traditional shopping center in São Paulo.
The highlights are the presentations by the Unidos da Vila Maria Samba School, which will take place every Saturday and Sunday, and the Forró Brasilis group, whose repertoire includes instrumental music and traditional Northeastern songs. You shows are scheduled for this weekend (5th and 6th) and next (12th and 13th).
Also present will be the groups Conexão Brasil/New Orleans, which features traditional rhythms from the North American city mixed with compositions by Brazilians Luiz Gonzaga, Tim Maia and Adoniran Barbosa, on this weekend and on the 19th and 20th; and Samba da Glória, with a selection of classics from gafieira, samba and choro, on the 26th and 27th.
The Mercadão, which is located at Rua Cantareira, 306, in the historic center of São Paulo, offers a wide variety of fruits, fish, cereals, cheeses, meats, drinks and seasonings. But the biggest highlights are in the gastronomy, with the traditional bologna sandwich, the dumpling and the codfish pastel.
