The STF minister rejects Senator Randolfe Rodrigues’ request a day after suspending a decision that censored reports on real estate deals with cash by the president’s family. Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) André Mendonça this Saturday (24/09) denied a request by Senator Randolfe Rodrigues, from Rede do Amapá, to investigate the presidential clan.
“There are not enough probative elements (just cause) to authorize the outbreak of criminal prosecution”, justifies the minister, who was appointed to the STF by Bolsonaro himself,
Randolfe’s request was made based on reports by the UOL portal, according to which in the last 30 years members of the Bolsonaro clan have repeatedly used large sums of money to purchase apartments, houses and land in cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and São Paulo. Paul.
The report states that Bolsonaro and his closest relatives bought 107 properties over three decades, at least 51 of which were acquired in whole or in part with cash. The report examined the assets of the president, his three oldest children, his mother, five brothers and two ex-wives.
Almost BRL 26 million
In values adjusted for inflation, the amount is today equivalent to almost R$ 26 million, according to the report.
Mendonça argues that Randolfe’s representation, which also requested blocking of accounts and search and seizure, was based solely on journalistic material, “without any minimally acceptable evidence or evidence to corroborate the information”.
“The company responsible for the matter, UOL – Universo Online SA, acknowledges that it has not accused the President of the Republic or members of his family of any crime”, says Mendonça.
The minister even classifies UOL’s reports as “lessons”. “A set of inferences and conjectures from whoever produced the matter, which places it better in the category of mere opinion/insinuation than descriptive of any illegality, in objective terms”.
Removal of censorship of reports
On Friday, André Mendonça overturned the decision of judge Demétrius Gomes Cavalcanti, of the Federal District Court of Justice (TJ-DFT), who censored reports by the UOL portal about the purchase of 51 properties in cash by the Bolsonaro family.
By banning the publication of the reports, the judge had accepted a request from Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, son of the President of the Republic.
Mendonca, however, ordered the release of the texts, stating that the blockade affects freedom of expression and has no constitutional support.
