Real Estate Advisor Paavo Marttila died in Lahti on January 15, 2022. He was 80 years old, born in Kymi on January 26, 1941.

Marttila was a networked, linguistic cosmopolitan and humane and at the same time analytical engineer who never made a number of himself. As heartfelt, intelligent and active, he survived in any situation.

Already while studying for a master’s degree in engineering at the Surveying Department of the Helsinki University of Technology, Marttila was active in the self-government of Otaniemi Teekkarikylä and in the design of dormitories and Dipoli in the area. His knowledge of community and building design and municipal engineering later led him to the world. First as a project coordinator for a huge water supply project in Tanzania and later for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Zambian Prime Minister’s Office National Development Planning Commission.

In addition, Marttila was involved in a World Bank-funded Lusaka Housing project involving several thousand homes.

He knew how to launch “Made in Finland” products in Japan in a credible way. Marttila was awarded the highest possible recognition for his work: the Order of the Commander of the Order of the Rising Sun of Japan in 1995.

Real estate The work done on this inspired Marttila’s purposeful operations in the rental market. For nearly forty years, he and his wife rented several dozen homes. He was also active in the management of condominiums as chairman, member and auditor. As vice president of the Property Authorization Association, he was also a bridge builder in situations where the views of the property management and the board of the housing association differed.

Paavo’s multidimensional and meaningful life ended in a long-term illness. Housing and housing development were on his mind for the rest of his life.
