Zacatecas.- Alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) shot down the security cameras of Apulco, Zacatecasand surrounding towns, during the early hours of Saturday, February 5, 2022, a fact that has already occurred before in this municipality.
According to local media, the incident occurred at dawn, when security cameras in Apulco captured the arrival of several men, allegedly members of the CJNG, aboard two vans.
The footage shows one of the men climbing a pole in order to knock over a surveillance camera, which even managed to capture his face, until he is finally knocked down after several hits with what appears to be a baseball bat. In another video, uniformed people can be seen, presumed municipal police officers of Apulco who would have participated in the events, according to reports.
Until now, the number of security cameras that were allegedly demolished by the CJNG has not been specified, but it is known that the destroyed cameras were in the municipal seat of Apulco, as well as surrounding communities located between Apulco and the municipality of Nochistlán.
One of the destroyed cameras is the same one that on December 5, 2021 captured a armed command of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel aboard two vans heading to Huejotitlán, in the municipality of Teocaltiche, Jalisco, where a confrontation with rival groups took place.
In June of last year, another camera in the area captured a checkpoint set up by alleged hitmen on the highway that reaches Apulco, and in April 2019 an alleged police officer deactivated one of the cameras that captured the passage of an armed commando.
Surveillance cameras have shown on several occasions the presence of the CJNG in this municipality of Zacatecaswhich borders the state of Jalisco and has become the scene of the dispute with the Sinaloa Cartel for control of the territory.
The confrontations, executions and checkpoints that have become recurrent in the area of Apulco and Nochistlán, in Zacatecas, as well as Teocaltiche, in Jalisco, have forced dozens of families to abandon their homes.
Violent Saturday in Zacatecas
This weekend has been particularly violent in Zacatecas, since in just 24 hours 19 murders were recorded in various attacks perpetrated by organized crime groups, according to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).
Between Friday and Saturday, a confrontation took place between alleged members of the CJNG and the Sinaloa Cartel in communities located in the mountains that Valparaíso and Jerez share.
Likewise, local media in Fresnillo and residents denounced that the communication antennas were demolished in the communities of Palmas Altas, La Ordeña, Sarabia, El Refugio de Arriba and Santa Rosa, who urgently requested the presence of the National Guard and the Army. , because they assure that the inhabitants are entrenched in their homes.
