About 350 immigrants have managed to overcome the perimeter of the 1,200 who tried to enter the city first thing in the morning
Melilla has registered this Thursday a new massive jump to the fence one day after the historic human avalanche on Wednesday, the largest known in the city. This Thursday about 350 immigrants have managed to overcome the border perimeter of the 1,200 sub-Saharans who have tried to enter the city in this new attempt.
The new jump to the perimeter took place around 7:25 in the morning and took place in the area between the border crossings of Barrio Chino and Beni-Enzar, the same area of the assault on Wednesday. It is a section of fencing that has more vulnerable points than the rest and in which the ‘inverted combs’, the new anti-intrusion system purchased by Interior, have not yet been installed.
A large group of immigrants have been ‘trapped’ between the fences or at the top of the fence, where they have been intercepted by the agents. Those who have managed to cross the perimeter have gone directly to the Temporary Immigrant Stay Center (CETI).
In these facilities are the 491 foreigners who entered the North African city on Wednesday in the largest human avalanche in the history of Melilla and in which more than 2,500 non-EU citizens participated.
Unlike what happened on Wednesday, this Wednesday the Civil Guard was warned of the attempted assault. On Wednesday night, members of the armed institute warned that nearly 3,000 sub-Saharans had gathered again near the border, in the foothills of Mount Gurugú, to try their luck again at the fence.
The immigrants “have displayed extreme violence, throwing stones, and using hooks and sticks against the Security Forces,” explained the Government Delegation. In fact, four agents of the Civil Guard have been injured.
