Mick Schumacher entered theAcademy Ferrari in January 2019 after winning the European Formula 3 title and with the boost of the Prancing Horse youth program he managed to conquer the Formula 2 championship in the 2o2o and be chosen by Haas to make his debut in Formula 1 in 2021. The young German driver he was aware that he was entering the highest category of motoring from the least performing team of the lot and therefore he wisely took this season as an apprenticeship in view of better times. There was no lack of setbacks, such as the battles on the track with the uncomfortable teammate Nikita Mazepin, but also moments of glory, such as the Budapest race closed in 12th place and in which he distinguished himself for a strenuous defense against Max Verstappen, even at the wheel of a definitely damaged Red Bull.
The young Schumacher has been confirmed by Haas for the 2022 season, to put to good use – hopefully in the points area – the lessons learned in this first season in Formula 1. Also Laurent Mekies, Ferrari racing director, congratulated the driver of the Maranello Academy: “In his debut season in Formula 1 Mick is confirming those qualities and values that have distinguished him throughout his still young career. Speed, determination, commitment and the desire to learn: these are some of the characteristics that have highlighted him on his journey within our Academy and which he has also begun to demonstrate with Haas. Are very confident that its growth will continue even stronger in a team that shares its ambitions ”.
