Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that NATO and Ukraine represent a constant threat to Russia. At a meeting with war veterans in the city of Volgograd, the former Russian president said yesterday that as long as “NATO” and Ukraine do not recognize Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014, as part of the Russian Federation, this will remain a danger for Russia. “If another country, whether it is Ukraine or NATO countries, thinks that Crimea is not Russian, that is a systemic threat to us,” Medvedev said. Medvedev added that NATO countries have nuclear weapons directed at Russia. Medvedev expressed his belief that there is “a danger of an escalation of the conflict in the event that at the head of Ukraine once again comes a crazy nationalist or a weak executive figure.” Medvedev announced that his country will continue its military operation in Ukraine until its complete disarmament.
