Assistant to the President of Russia, head of the Russian Historical Society Vladimir Medinsky accused the Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky of ignorance of history and called him a loser after the head of state accepted a letter from King Charles XII on the recognition of the Zaporizhzhya Sich from the hands of Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson.
“That’s what happens to losers in history. Zelensky publicly thanked the Prime Minister of Sweden, accepting a letter from Charles XII of 1711, in which he seemed to recognize the Zaporizhzhya Sich as “independent,” he wrote on July 5 in his Telegram channel.
As Medinsky pointed out, Charles XII considered the Sich a protectorate of Sweden, or rather, of Poland, which was under the great influence of Sweden.
“If this is Zelensky’s trolling from the Swedes, then this is very tough,” he continued.
The day before, Zelensky showed reporters a copy of a 1711 letter from Charles XII, the original of which is kept in Sweden, where the king instructs the ambassador to recognize the Zaporizhzhya Sich as an independent state under the leadership of Hetman Philip Orlyk.
Medinsky noted that Orlik was “the hetman of Little Russia in exile”, he eventually did not wait for forgiveness from Peter I or support from allies in Europe and died in a foreign country.
On July 1, the German lawyer and politician, ex-deputy of the Bundestag, ex-parliamentary state secretary of the Federal Ministry of Defense Willi Wimmer noted that the endless calls in the world media for an open confrontation with Russia performed by the Ukrainian president look strange. His article was published under the title “Zelensky is going crazy.”
On June 17, the French ridiculed President Emmanuel Macron because of a photo with Zelensky. Some users felt that the picture shows “tactility to the point of absurdity.” Others noted that the frame can be considered a portrait of a couple in love.
