Legal recognition of crimes against the Nazis in the USSR as genocide could help to end accusations of unleashing the Second World War, which sound against Russia as the legal successor of the Soviet Union. This was announced on November 20 by the presidential aide, chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO) Vladimir Medinsky at the international forum “Lessons from Nuremberg” in Moscow.
“It’s time to raise the issue of recognizing the Nazi policy in the occupied territory of the Soviet Union as a deliberate genocide of the peoples of the USSR. Perhaps this will allow us to stop all these endless attempts to accuse our country of unleashing World War II, ”he said. “RIA News”…
Earlier at the forum, the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, called outrageous allegations in the West that the Soviet Union was one of the initiators of the Second World War.
According to him, the RF IC wants “with facts in hand to show the absurdity, inconsistency, factual, legal, historical of such a statement,” reports RIA Novosti.
Bastrykin also urged to consolidate the fact of the genocide of the Soviet people during the war.
Earlier on the same day, the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov announced the need to consolidate at the legislative level the ban on rehabilitation, propaganda of Nazism and falsification of history – this needs to be amended to the law “On the perpetuation of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” and consolidate it contains the concepts of Nazism, fascism and genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union.
Also, according to Krasnov, the law should be supplemented with provisions on the prohibition of the rehabilitation and propaganda of Nazism, on ensuring the protection of historical truth, and countering the falsification of historical facts.
On the eve, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova called the words of the FRG Ambassador to Lithuania Matthias Sonn about the goals of the USSR in World War II a rude and cynical provocation, and added that Moscow was waiting for an explanation in connection with this statement.
The German ambassador to Lithuania earlier said that the Red Army liberated Germany from fascism, ostensibly in order to “establish Stalin’s repressive rule in the defeated country.”
