Stop at limited numbers and entrance tests for degree courses in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics and Veterinary Medicine. The green light has arrived from the 7th Senate Commission for the enabling bill which revises the access methods. This was announced by the Ministry of University and Research.
What does the reform provide?
The reform provides for the abolition of the limited number of students in the first semester, allowing open enrollment for all aspiring doctors without taking the entrance tests. The objective is the reorganization of the system of medical-health professions with a view to sustainability for both the universities and the NHS. The government delegation bill aims to guarantee a fairer selection, based on the students’ acquired skills. Access will in fact be regulated through training credits and the position achieved in a national ranking.
“This day represents a historic step towards guaranteeing all young people the opportunity to become professionals in the medical field. The need for future new doctors is 30 thousand professionals in the next seven years. To meet this requirement we have already increased the places available for degree courses in medicine and surgery and veterinary medicine. Today we are completely revising the selection criteria. For the first year we are abolishing the limited number of students and the entrance tests, but we are planning a filter semester with characterizing exams, the results of which will still be recognised. for alternative training paths. In this way we not only invest in the right aspirations of our children, but we also guarantee quality preparation through an excellent training offer”, explains the Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini in a note .
The reform includes, the Mur communicates, orientation initiatives already during the last years of secondary school, with specific paths to facilitate entry into degree courses. Students will be able to benefit from targeted training and, in case of failure to be admitted to the second semester, the recognition of credits acquired to continue with other study paths. This strategy aims to optimize available resources and ensure quality preparation in a crucial sector for the country.
