Media | The Association of Journalists warns of a strike against MTV’s content creators in March

The strike would last two weeks and affect, among other things, MTV’s news, websites and current affairs programs.

Association of Journalists issued a strike warning on MTV ‘s content creators on Friday.

If the outcome of the negotiations is not reached, the strike will begin in two weeks, on March 11, the Journalists’ Union says. The strike lasts two weeks and affects about 160 content creators. When implemented, the industrial action will affect, among other things, MTV’s news, websites and current affairs programs.

The Association of Journalists has been negotiating a collective agreement for MTV’s content creators since January. The employer is represented by Palta.

Director of Advocacy of the Union of Journalists Petri Savolaisen according to MTV, it has worse working conditions than otherwise in the industry.

“We want to get back to normal working conditions for journalists. Maikkari now has the weakest in the industry, ”Savolainen says in a press release.

Mediation under the leadership of the national mediator is likely to begin next week.

Palta considers the strike warning now to be incomprehensible and irresponsible.

“Strike warning in the current situation, where Finns are closely following the events in Ukraine, shows bad judgment from the Union of Journalists”, Palta Labor Market Director Go to the Extremes says in a press release.

According to Palta’s press release, the employer side has also taken into account the goals presented by the Association of Journalists in its own presentations.

“However, the demands made by the Union of Journalists clearly exceed the general line of the labor market in terms of cost level,” says Ääri.
