NAfter several gunshots in Meckenheim near Bonn, the police overpowered a suspect on Sunday evening. The man was seriously injured in the access by special forces, said a police spokesman for the German press agency. There was an exchange of fire. In the course of the operation, a police officer’s hand was previously injured. There was initially no knowledge of other injured persons.
The police said they were alerted around 9 p.m. because witnesses had reported a rioter. According to the statements, he also pulled a gun and shot on the street. Then the man should have moved on. “Here he gave – according to our current knowledge – more shots,” said the police spokesman. Special forces have been requested.
It was a “very dynamic situation”, said the police spokesman. The surrounding buildings could not be evacuated so quickly due to the overall situation. Doctors and paramedics were on site.
The “Bonner General-Anzeiger” had first reported on the incident. Numerous police officers were “partly heavily armed in the streets,” reported the newspaper. Some areas have also been cordoned off. At first it was unclear who the suspect was, as was his motive.
