In the world of Formula 1, the ‘Mazepin case’. The Russian Haas driver has been on foot by his team in recent days, as the team’s reaction to the Russian invasion of Ukraine that is causing so much dismay around the world. The FIA, as well as the main international sports organizations, has taken measures against the athletes of the attacking country, aligning itself with the policy of heavy sanctions imposed on Moscow by the West. The International Automobile Federation, however, has chosen not to automatically ban Russian drivers from competitions, inviting them to ratify a declaration in which they undertake to distance themselves from the work of their government, agreeing to compete as neutral athletes.
In Mazepin, however, it was not in fact the possibility to choose what to do, given that the American team decided to renounce both him and its generous sponsor, the company. Uralkali which is de facto owned by Nikita’s father, Dmitry Mazepin. The parent of the # 9 Muscovite is one of the richest and most powerful oligarchs in his country and enjoys – like others – a close relationship with the president Vladimir Putin. It therefore seems easy to imagine that these reasons also weighed in the choice of the Russian team, which already during the last day of testing in Barcelona had given up on displaying its traditional livery, recalling the colors of the Russian flag.
Mazepin Jr. clearly did not like the decision of his former team and has already announced in recent days through the social networks the will to express his version of the facts. This will happen in one Press conference, a rather expected hour, scheduled for the morning of Wednesday 9 March, at 10 am Italian time. Mazepin should therefore tell the truth about him and also announce what the plans will be for the continuation of his career in motorsport.
