Lewis Hamilton almost broke a record last weekend. He was close to taking an unparalleled ninth win in the same spot. However, the safety car threw a spanner in the works and this weekend it is Max Verstappen’s turn to go for a new record.
If Max Verstappen manages to take the win at the Red Bull Ring, he will have the most victories of the Austrian GP to his name. At the moment he is level with Jo Siffert and Alain Prost, who both also won the Austrian GP three times. Verstappen can therefore reach lonely heights this weekend.
Huh, but he’s already won four times?
A small side note is that Verstappen has actually won four times at the Red Bull Ring. Only once he won the GP of Styria. So you could say that he already has the record, but for those who love numbers and statistics it will be nice if Max wins this weekend.
Of course, to be the first to cross the line, Verstappen has to watch out for the Ferraris. Although Ferrari will again do everything they can to ensure that Leclerc and Sainz have an unnecessarily difficult time this weekend. Nice habit of them.
Mercedes also seems to be getting faster and faster. And then there is also rain in the air next weekend, which always makes for an unpredictable spectacle in Austria. So a victory for Verstappen will not be self-evident. Below you can see what time Formula 1 in Austria starts from Friday.
