Tigres is experiencing a new era under the command of Miguel Herrera. After the sports project of the UANL team was led by Ricardo Ferretti for eleven years, the university board decided to renew the leadership and bet on the ‘Piojo’. The journey of ‘Tuca’ at the head of the felines is the most successful in the history of the Monterrey team.
Under Ferretti, Tigres won five Liga MX titles (Apertura 2011, Apertura 2015, Apertura 2016, Apertura 2017, Clausura 2019), one Copa MX (Clausura 2014), three Champion of Champions titles (2015-2016, 2016 -2017, 2017-2018) and a Concacaf Champions League (2020).
In a recent interview, Mauricio Culebro, president of Tigres, spoke about the transition that the UANL team has experienced over the last year and compared the situation to the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson from Manchester United. The manager told ESPN that after so many years of Ferretti’s achievements, it was not easy to make a change.
“As you mention the part of the change of the technical director, after so many years, after so many successes of Ricardo, it was not easy to change. In general, you see important changes after a long time, like Manchester United, what they have suffered. So, for us it was important to make a change that the sports part and the team would not suffer in the results, of course that was a great challenge, also the demand of the fans, in the end we owe it to the fans, I have always said that we can be here many, but the only ones who will always be there are the fans.”

Culebro indicated that it is important that the fans are happy with the project and proud of their team. On this last point, the coach considered that the supporters of the feline club are again generating that communion with the squad and that the last games at the Volcano are proof of that.
