The victory of the Russian woman Vitalina Batsarashkina at the Tokyo Olympics should inspire other athletes of the Russian national team. This opinion was expressed on July 25 by the Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin.
Thus, he commented on the fact that the Russian woman brought Russia the first gold at the 2020 Olympics in shooting from a pneumatic pistol from a distance of 10 m.
“I congratulate Vitalina Batsarashkina, her coaches, the Russian Shooting Union and all Russian fans with the first gold medal of our team at the Games in Tokyo. At the previous Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Vitalina won silver five years ago, and now she won the long-awaited and well-deserved gold, and even with an Olympic record. It is noteworthy that this is the first gold award for Russia in shooting at the Olympic Games since 2004. Let this bright victory of Vitalina Batsarashkina inspire all our Olympians to the highest achievements and records, ”the ministry’s press service quoted Matytsin as saying.
After winning the competition, Batsarashkina said that she had no goal of reaching the finals and winning medals. The athlete said that she is not yet aware of the fact that she has become an Olympic champion.
As it became known later, during the final, the women had an electronics failure. The system did not detect Batsarashkina’s shot. As a result, the judges allowed the Russian woman to make another shot, since the electronics, not the person, were mistaken.
The 24-year-old Russian woman scored 240.3 points and set a new Olympic record.
The Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics were scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition was postponed for a year. They take place from 23 July to 8 August 2021 without the participation of foreign fans. The name of the Games – “Tokyo-2020” – has been saved.
